In the early decades of the 20th Century, Western jewellers discovered the magic of jadeite jade and incorporated it into western style jewellery for the first time. In Asian countries jade has been revered for centuries, it is believed to possess magical powers, bestowing upon its wearer good luck, prosperity and protection. It continues to be the most highly prized gemstone in some cultures, and traditionally reserved for the elite. This sweet and simple oval shaped jadeite jade cabochon ring is an excellent example of the fusion of cultures in the 1920s – the mottled green oval cabochon of jadeite set simply in a 1920s white gold bezel, with tiny milgrain around the perimeter and reeded grooves along the outsite. Pinky rings were the height of fashion in the 1920s/1930s, this jade ring would have been the absolute pinnacle of cool. Manufacture Modelled in 9ct white gold, there is a 9ct stamp to the insode of the band. The metal fineness has been verified by XRF test. The semi-translucent green jade cabochon has been verified by an independent gemologist as jadeite jade. It is oval cabochon cut and measures approximately 11mm x 8mm x 4.5mm. The jade is set into a white gold bezel with a rub-over setting, decorated with fine milgrain around the perimeter. The bezel has two reeded paralell grooves around the around the outside. The shoulders are upswept and pinched, leading to a half round band. Two more decorative grooves can be found on each side of the band. The face of the ring measures 11.63mm x 8.6mm. Sits 4.62mm high on the finger. Weighs 1.93 grams.
